The telecoms giant BT is under investigation for alleged privacy breaches after it secretly allowed a company to monitor the web activities of thousands of broadband customers.

The Information Commissioner, the Government’s personal data watchdog, is looking into a complaint over BT’s trial of a system which gleans information about people’s interests from the web pages they view.
